I’ve been hearing and reading about Pintrest so I decided to join and see what all the fuss is about. My conclusion is that it’s a great fun and I’m sure it will help with connecting people. Come and have a look at my profile here 

Pinterest is a Social Media platform that allows you to add pictures that you find online onto a board. The site’s mission statement is to “connect everyone in the world through the ‘things’ they find interesting.” It’s like a virtual corkboard.

In January 2012, comScore reported the site had 11.7 million unique users, making it the fastest site in history to break through the 10 million unique visitor mark. Even many well know brands like Whole Foods and Etsy are on Pinterest.

When pinning a photo to a board, it will state where the photo was from. For example, when I pinned a photograph of my blog it shows the URL to my blog. In addition, when you click on the photo, it will bring you to the original website, so in other words – traffic to your blog

I think it’s a great way as well to create YOUR Dream board!

It appears to be the hottest new Social Media website in 2012. And it’s a way to connect with people and see people’s interests with pictures.

Be careful though. Pinterest can be very addictive. Apparently users spend more time on Pinterest than on Twitter, LinkedIn and Google Plus combined!

If you have a website or a blog it’s VERY important that you add social plugins on there so people can find you on the Social Media platforms you are using.

In this post I’ll show you how you can add Facebook Social plugins to your site. It’s easy and simple to do, if you know where to go! 

Here is what you need to do step by step:

1. Firstly you need to be logged into Facebook before you start.  So go ahead and log in!
2. Visit the following web address: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/
3. Have a look at the plugins available, see what they do and pick the one you want to use for your site.
4. Click to open, follow the instruction and select ‘Get Code’
5. Copy all of the code (be sure not to leave any out) and Paste it to your website/blog and view your page now live on the web.

Sometimes you require sharing files with clients or someone you are working on a project with that tend to be a little too big for emailing. So what can you do? 

DropBox is a FREE service that lets you save your photos, docs and videos so that they are available when and where you need them. Files saved on one computer can be available from all of your computers and phones.  So it’s perfect for team projects involving music or video editing, computer and system repairs, or for anything that needs collaboration among its members. 

I’ve been using Dropbox to share big files and I think it’s great. It’s good to have as a part of your virtual system. You get up to 2GB of free space, and of course if you need more, you can always upgrade and pay for more space.  But another way of getting some free extra space is to log in to your DropBox account, select “get extra space free” and you’ll get a link to send out to your friends. For every friend who joins and installs DropBox via your link, you both get 250 MB of bonus space up to a limit of 8 GB.  So click here and we’ll both get extra space and then go and invite your friends to DropBox

Every individual folder can be shared with other people. If you are the owner of the folder, you can give people permission to add, edit and delete the contents inside the folder; or you can just let them read the information. Don’t worry – people sharing your DropBox folder will not be able to access anything outside of that specific folder, unless you choose to share, of course.

You can even share a file with someone who’s not got a DropBox. All you need to do is drop the file you want to share in your “Public Folder”, then right click and choose “Copy Public URL”. Then you can E-mail this link, or post it on your web page for people to use.

When saving a file to one computer the DropBox folder is updated on all of your devices. But if for some reason you lose ALL of your devices then the contents are still available on DropBox and you only have to log in.

I wrote this post for my other blog but decided to put it here as well as it’s useful to know if you are using Social Media for your business. It’s about #FF and what it means on Twitter. When I first saw this I didn’t know what it meant so I did some research! This is how #FF looks like; 

# (hash tag) FF is short for #Follow Friday. It’s a Twitter trend created back in 2009 by Twitter users that has since become a customary Friday activity. It’s a shout out, a show of appreciation. Each Friday you recommend Twitter profiles that you appreciate and enjoy to all of your followers. The idea being that your #FF recommendation will encourage others to check out that profile, generating more followers for them.

If you want to send a #FF, simply add #FF (or #Follow Friday) to your message, the @name of the person you are recommending along with a genuine reason for your recommendation.

After reading more about #FF I think it might be a better idea to include just one recommendation per message, rather than a message full of @names which could be too much. With many @… you are giving too many choices, and Twitter is too fast for making choices. By giving just one legitimate reason to follow someone people are more likely to listen.

If someone # you, don’t just # back for no reason. Give your followers a reason why they should check out what you recommend on #FF. If you do so – others will see through it and won’t appreciate a suggestion to follow someone who tweets nonsense all day.

Lastly, if you’re lucky enough to receive a #FF, thank the person in a reply tweet, like this one:

Do you use Facebook to grow your business?  Do you know the difference between a personal profile and a business page?  Do you ask people to be a friend to your business or to like your business?  So many small business owners are still setting up their business as a Facebook Profile rather than a Facebook Page so here is a post to clarify! 

What is a profile?

When you sign up to Facebook you create a personal profile and you invite “friends” to join you and become a friend with people.  So far, so good right?  But the problem comes when people set up a second profile for their small businesses.  I’m still getting friend requests to small businesses so people are still not setting up their business right on Facebook.

According to Facebook, personal profiles represent individuals and must be held under an individual name. You are only allowed to hold one personal profile.  If you set up your business as a second personal profile, you are contravening Facebook’s terms of service and they can shut your second profile (business) down at any time. If that happens you will lose all your “friends” and all the content on your second profile without any notice.  If you think about it, when you are asking people to “friend” your business you are also asking them to allow you to access their holiday snapshots, check out their marital status and pry into their personal lives.  It is not professional.

What are pages?

According to Facebook, pages allow an organization, business, celebrity, or band to maintain a professional presence on Facebook. Pages have number of advantages over profiles;

• They can be found by search engines.  Your status on your Page is searchable too.
• They can be seen by people not logged into Facebook.
• They track user analytics so you can see how many people have seen your post and your response rate as well as tracking the activities of your page.
• You are unlimited by how many people can “like” your Page.
• You can create widgets and like buttons that are easy to embed into your website and blog.  Facebook creates the code for you that you copy and paste into a widget on your website/blog.
• You can set up additional Page admins to have access to managing your page without sharing passwords.
• People who like your page can’t see the Page admins and they don’t have access to your personal account.
• You can have as many pages as you want.

Is a great little tool I use to manage my Twitter account. It’s really simple and FREE to use. You have the option to upgrade to pro but I find the free version very good and suits me fine.I go in and “tidy” my Twitter account 2-3 times a month. 

Sometimes when using Twitter you get to the point were you can’t follow more people. Then, Manageflitter comes in handy. You simply log in and unfollow few and then will be able to follow more people. At least it has done the trick for me . You can see how active/unactive people are and for example if a person hasn’t tweeted for a long time you tick the box and unfollow.  Below are few things you can do;

•Clean up and manage who you follow

•Find out who isn’t following you back

•Find out which inactive accounts you follow

•Easily search inside your Twitter stream.
